THE WORLD'S FIRST, PERMANENTLY INSTALLED, RECESSED, ROOFTOP, NON-FREEZE, WILDFIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM
ABOUT US
In a world of global warming and climate change that is here to stay, Rainstorm (Wildfire) Sprinklers has invented and developed a permanently installed, recessed, low profile, non-freeze, rooftop sprinkler system, that will help in preventing property damage caused by flying embers and other forms of exterior fire hazards. We believe that it would be highly beneficial to give a property owner a fixed-in-place sprinkler that will assist with extinguishing flying embers that land on the roof or in the gutters of any building.
If you're building new,
you really should plan for a permanent wildfire sprinkler system,
wherever you live !!!
We don't think a property owner should be rushing around trying to hook-up exposed sprinklers and hazardous piping at a time when he/she should be gathering their family and important documents and possessions together, just after an evacuation order !!!Our sprinkler system will be of particular interest for owners who are building new homes as well owners of remote properties located far away from lakes and firehalls, and we're not only talking about rustic, Ma and Pa, hand-me-down back-country cottages, but we're including those multi-million dollar, architecturally designed, custom homes.
What to do about water storage ???
Think above-ground swimming pool.Three seasons fun for the kids and family, plus a built-in 10,000 gal fire-fighting reservoir.

However, even buildings that are inside City boundaries are just as liable to be in harm's way.Truth is, nobody is safe from wildfire !!!There are many recent examples of these types of fires.
This is an example of an ember fire-storm.
WHAT IT IS

Hopefully you can see from our logo, and the photo above, that we position our sprinkler heads at (or slightly off) the actual ridge line of your house,It doesn't matter how many ridge lines or what angle roof(s) you have, or what your roof is made from, we have a solution for all of them. We also have solutions for flat roofs and if the sprinklers are not mounted at the peak !!!Our sprinklers can also help protect against any unforeseen problems arising from solar panel installations as well.
This is a short video that will introduce us, and help you understand what we can do for you...
WHAT WE DO

We have designed and built a fully developed, actual working prototype installation on a single family home, and are in the patent pending stage for Canada, USA and Australia. We can help you or your contractor to design and install the complete system. These systems are easy to install into new building construction projects, however they can also be retrofitted into existing buildings.
You really need your own backup systems
As a starting point, we recommend that you have both an uninterruptable water source available, be it a well, swimming pool or water storage tank, and a standby generator. City water and hydro cannot be considered "uninterruptable" since they both can and may be shut off to use elsewhere.
This applies to whichever wildfire sprinkler system
you ultimately choose to go with.
You are only fooling yourself if you believe otherwise.
Just think about it for a minute.Read those words again.Even if you only learn that from us, we have delivered a service to you.

OUR PRODUCTS
We have 4 main products: the standard sprinkler device, a recessed wall box, a distribution header and a pre-packaged pump station. They can all be customized to suit your requirements, so be sure to contact us before ordering, if you have any special requests.
Standard Sprinkler Devices

The complete standard device comprises of several individual (mostly 3D printed) components that fit together to make the complete device. Our "basic" standard device is 9 in long and black in colour. (It is dropped into the roof opening (preferably at or close to the peak) and secured in place, where it is connected to a PEX, Copper (or other) piping system that runs down through the building to where either the recessed wall box/header are located (they don't have to be mounted together), or to our pre-packaged pump station.

We can offer 3 sprinkler body lengths, 9", 12" and 18", which can be used on roofs varying from flat to 18/12 in slope.
You want metal exposed components ???
As we speak, we're working on making our Upper Cap and Spray Nozzles out of natural or black finished Brass. Stay tuned for updates, or contact us if you need them right now.
Every sprinkler device comes with a weatherproofing gasket, upper and lower cylindrical caps, water feed tube and spray nozzle (360deg, 30ft diameter), two, U-shaped support brackets and spacers, and complete installation instructions. It is available in alternative colours and shapes, and its body length can differ depending upon the exact material and design of your roof.It is also available with different water spray radii, as well as for 180 deg sprays, if required. We even have a special sprinkler device for use above open cathedral ceilings. It is important to let us know what type of roof material and slope (if any) you have, so that we can ensure that you get the correct sprinkler device that you need.
Standard Basic 9" Sprinkler Device
Pre-Production* Price $ 159.99
Recessed Wall Box

If you have an existing exterior water storage system (like a swimming pool, hot tub or bladder/steel/plastic storage tank), you can connect your (electric/gas operated) above ground or submersible water pump (with plenty of back-up fuel) to it, to provide pressurized water to the rooftop sprinklers. It comes with a 1" male, cam-lock fitting (which is good for up to 8 sprinkler heads).
Recessed Wall Box:
Pre-Production* Price $ 132.95
4-Zone Distribution Header

Each sprinkler needs approximately 3 gpm at 30 psi pressure to operate properly. You can make up your own header, or purchase ours ready-made for fast on-site assembly.Ours works with the 1" recessed wall box, and can be located at any place in the building, convenient for the sprinkler piping array. Each 1" header has a main 1" shut off valve, and four, 3/4" valved takeoffs, which can be split into two 1/2" pipes to supply two rooftop sprinkler devices, plus a 3/4" takeoff to connect a compressed air nipple to.
4 Zone Distribution Header
Pre-Production Price $ 299.95
Pump Station with 4-Zone Distribution Header

The complete pre-packaged pump station is available with a 4 zone (3/4" each) distribution header. You can make up your own pump and header system, or purchase ours ready made for fast on-site assembly.Ours works with a 1" incoming supply pipe and can be located at any place in the building, convenient for the sprinkler piping array. Its best use is if you or your customer simply wants to "flip a switch" and leave the property on an evacuation order. It takes gravity-fed water from your swimming pool or storage tank, and pressurizes it to feed up to the rooftop sprinkler heads. The pump runs on 120V, 1 ph. power. We always advise that a back-up, emergency power supply is always available in case of hydro shut-down. This power switch-over can be done automatically in your absence, if you have any commercially available generator set.
Pump Station and 4-Zone Distribution Header
Pre-Production* Price $2,399.00
The recessed wall box, distribution headers and pump station are available with 1 1/2" piping for 8 zones (up to 16 sprinkler heads), for larger projects. Please note that all prices DO NOT include taxes or shipping costs. For out-of-Canada sales, any imposed tariffs and import duties are to be paid by the customer. Please allow 3 – 4 weeks for delivery for most items.* pre-production price means we are still in the manufacturing set-up stage, so you might find a few minor microscopic cosmetic glitches as we fine-tune our 3D printing equipment, however it's performance will not be affected, as all items are rigorously tested before leaving our facility
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should I install wildfire sprinklers on my roof ???Good question. If you're really worried about losing your property to a wildfire, the best place to start thinking about a sprinkler install, is the roof. The roof is the largest area you have for flying embers to land on, and it's a known fact that red hot, flying embers are the cause of over 95% of wildfire destruction to homes and other buildings. You never know when a natural (or man-made) fire is going to happen. Even if you live in a large city, it's not always possible for your fire department to reach or help you.Even if they can, they may cut-off both your water and electricity. If you have your own permanently installed, roof mounted sprinkler system, you are less dependent upon others, so you gain peace of mind knowing that you are protected.Do I need a permanently installed wildfire sprinkler system ???No you don't. You can have a system that you install when a wildfire is near, or when you receive an evacuation order. But you never know when that will be. Maybe you'll be busy at work, out of town or somewhere else, and you won't have time to get home and do your manual sprinkler install.Your home may be larger than normal, or 2 or 3 storeys high, or with an unusual roof shape or design. There are systems that clip onto your gutters, or that you can throw a string over the roof and pull a sprinkler up, and so on. However, you need to be sure that all parts of your roof will get wet, for any system to work properly, not just ours. With a permanently installed system, it's one less thing you need to worry about. Again peace of mind, as well as adding value to your house, and maybe getting or reducing your insurance costs.
Here's a short movie showing recessed rooftop sprinklers working on a house with gutters and a large deck. Everything is soaking wet in under 2 minutes.
Does my sprinkler system have to be recessed ???No. If you do choose to go with a permanently installed sprinkler system, there are other companies that offer surface mounted options. However, if you go with a non-recessed system, you are exposing piping and fittings to the elements, as well as making it more difficult (and expensive) to do your regular roofing maintenance.Exposed plastic piping is susceptible to weathering quickly, and exposed systems are generally uglier than Rainstorm Sprinkler's recessed system. We don't have sticky out thingies with metal whirly-gig bits and pieces, and there's nothing hanging down for the kids to trip over or the dog to chew up and destroy. Plus, the surface mounted piping systems, give more locations to trap leaves and twigs. Is a Rainstorm Sprinkler made from metal ???No. Rainstorm uses an additive material manufacturing (3D printing) process. This allows us to keep initial manufacturing costs down, plus (more importantly) gives us the capability of offering you custom shapes, sizes and colors to the tiny visible exposed part of the device that you see, and that does the actual work. Our exposed parts (the spray nozzle itself and the colored upper cap) are 3D printed from ABS, which is the same material that your roof/exhaust vents, plumbing stacks, drains and gutters are made from, totally weather and climate resistant. However, we are presently experimenting with making our upper caps and spray nozzles from plain and painted brass, which will be available as a "special order" from customers that request metal exterior parts.
Cooling, you say ???Yes. Due to the process of "evaporation", by turning on your permanently installed sprinklers on hot Summer days, you will be able to wet your roof, and cool it down, thereby reducing the heat transmitted to the interior of your house.Bonus, built-in, low cost "air conditioning" !!!
Can I install the system myself ???Absolutely. Rainstorm specifically designed the system for ease of installation for either a contractor or a DIY enthusiast. When you buy a sprinkler from us, we provide you with a step-by-stem installation manual (or you can email us for a copy right now). Our company founder built his own house (and installed eleven recessed sprinklers), in 2017, when he was only 72 years old, so if he can do it, most others can as well. For the more complex portions of the build (the plumbing headers and pump station), Rainstorm offers a ready-made package that you can buy and quickly/easily install. Can my sprinkler system be automated ???Yes it can. There are other manufacturers that provide exterior fire detection systems that sniff out products of combustion, and use IR to detect flames, or rapid rise in temperature, that can be used to open a valve and start the water flowing. You can find them on the internet.Plus there are name-brand generators that sense power failure and can self-start and run normally.Plus there are smartphone apps that make it possible for you to remotely "flip the switch" to turn the system on.At Rainstorm, we can work with you or your contractor to design these automated methods, just contact us and let us know what you're thinking about.
But don't forget the flying embers !!!
They can land and set fire to your roof, sometimes many hours before a fire reaches your property, or gets within range of an automated fire detection system. By then it could be too late.
How many recessed sprinkler heads do I need ???Good question. A lot depends on the shape, size, material and slope of your roof. Each "standard" sprinkler device has a spray radius of 15 ft, so it covers an area of about 700 sq.ft. You should allow for some water spray overlapping, so we recommend that (standard) sprinklers are spaced about 20 ft apart along the ridge. Now we do offer different spray configurations (like spray radius or quarter or half spray circles) so if in doubt, you or your contractor can send us a roof drawing with some exterior photographs, and we can help with the design.Do Rainstorm Sprinklers cause water damage ???Our sprinklers are mounted at (or near) the ridgeline of your roof, so they work just like rain. Hint.Rain water runs down the roof and does not enter into chimneys, roof/exhaust vents etc, which can cause damage to your home's interior. Many of the clip-on or high pressure fence/gutter sprinklers, spray water upwards, which makes it very easy for pressurized water to get under shingles or inside chimneys or roof/exhaust vents, so it could enter and damage your home.

Do I really need my own water supply and electrical generator for the system to work ???No, you don't. But these are the issues for you to think about. Each Rainstorm sprinkler uses about 3 gals of water a minute and works at a pressure of approximately 30 psi (similar to your car tires). Most homes, either on a city or well water system don't provide that kind of pressure.Think about standing on top of your roof with a garden hose. Yes it works, but not that well. Now stand on your roof with 4 or 5 garden hoses (assuming you have an average house roof size) all connected to the same wall hose bibb outlet. The water pressure and quantity is severely reduced, but yes, they (may) still work.At Rainstorm Sprinklers, we advocate for your own, separate water and hydro supplies, again for peace of mind, and independency from others, even if you don't choose our sprinkler system !!!Assuming you have an average sized roof with 4 or 5 sprinkler heads, you're looking at maybe 15 gpm of water. For 3 or 4 hours of protection, that’s maybe 4,000 gals of water in total. If you have an average swimming pool, likely it's around 15,000 gals. If not, maybe you can add an above ground pool, around 10,000 gals, so that your family can enjoy it all summer long. If not, it might be possible for you to add a couple of buried or above ground storage tanks in your basement or out back of the garage ???Or what's also feasible, is to store a couple of inflatable round bladder tanks (like the ones the fire departments use) inside a storage shed on the back patio, that you can pull out and fill with water at the start of the fire season. There are many alternates available. And don't forget a gas/diesel/propane gen-set, with lots of spare fuel, to keep your pump running for the time you need it.Something else to think about ???Every property owner needs to study their own situation in detail. Rainstorm Sprinklers can do a very specific job, exceptionally well. But it may only be a part of the wildfire protection you need.Do you have large forested areas surrounding your house, or car ports or deep overhangs on your house ??? Is your house "hardened" and does it comply with the "FireSmart" recommendations in your community ???Even if it is "FireSmarted", don't forget the embers. They can still fall on your roof !!!Any other questions ???Please ask by filling out our contact form below. We'll be happy to get back to you. Stay safe and be prepared with Rainstorm Sprinklers.
